IPSU

International Programmes Stellenbosch University (IPSU) offers various courses for international students. Besides, IPSU also provides a Summer school and Winter school program.
According to your student status e.g. "exchange student" the courses are charged differently. All the IPSU courses are free of charge for "special international students". During the orientation week you'll receive a list of all offered courses. After you have applied for a specific course, you have two weeks time to attend this course and check whether it fits into your study plans. If not, it is possible to de-register. Some possible courses:

  • Introduction to the South African Wine Industry
  • Southern African Music
  • Xhosa: Language and Culture
  • Political and Cultural Change in contemporary South Africa
  • Economic and Development Problems in South Africa and Africa
  • Afrikaans for beginners

For all courses you'll get ECTS or American credits, even 1 ECTS credit for the wine course ;-)

Also, all courses are "not open to attendance only" , that means you have the same work to do as in a "real" course offered by a department (Assignments, Tests, etc.).

Attending this course is also a must!
It is offered by the "Kaapse Wynakademie" and provides the basics of wine:

  • history
  • viticulture
  • winemaking
  • and of course a lot of winetasting !

The test is quite difficult and in preparation for the test you should study the wine regions, estates and wine routes of South Africa.
